go places that make you feel small
When the thoughts get too big, go places that make you feel small.
The world is so large, don't ever let yourself be constrained by where you are right now. There will undoubtedly be times in your life when your thoughts are all over the place; when choices about work, family, friends, and just about everything comes crashing down at you. In times like these, it's important to go somewhere where you feel small.
There's something magical about the way nature embraces you, whether it's the mountains, forests, or oceans. Feeling small doesn't mean being insignificant. Instead, it's about realizing that life is bigger than the choice you have to make next week or the decision you've been dreading for months.
In San Francisco, I love to go to the hills of Marin County, where the wind cuts low against the grass while the sun grazes over it. With nothing but endless hills in sight, my thoughts fade away, my mind clears, and all of a sudden, that task that's been haunting me doesn't feel so daunting.
The mountains couldn't give a shit about what's going on in your life; all that matters is your presence and the act of putting one foot in front of the other. As the rest of your thoughts fade away, breathe and truly take in the beauty and vast expanse of our world.
Your problems are small, not you. It's all a matter of perspective.
